Our story

Advantage Design Construction, Inc. started in Lafayette, Louisiana, in 2003 as Advantage Design Homes, Inc., founded by Scott Tomsu. It is an established Acadiana builder: residential and commercial, with a long record of finished work. From 2004 through 2012 the company built 70+ homes across Carencro, Broussard, Youngsville, Scott and the rest of Lafayette Parish, and in Maurice. Most were new single-family homes in growing subdivisions, including brick custom homes. Others were built for owners on their own lots.

Scott designed most of these homes himself in Chief Architect. They were designed and built in-house: floor plans, elevations and site plans that were used across neighborhoods, some of them more than once. Company homes were entered in the Acadiana Parade of Homes in 2004 and 2006, and a Parade elevation was drawn for a 2008 home in Scott.

After Hurricane Katrina, the company also built in New Orleans: raised duplexes and two-story homes on elevated pier foundations, built to the city’s new elevation standards. In 2009 the company took its current name as the work grew beyond houses. That work included a medical office in New Iberia built on the area’s heavy “blackjack” clay, a restaurant interior buildout in Broussard, a commercial interior renovation in Lafayette, public-housing renovations in Ville Platte, and a park restroom building in Ville Platte.

This collection brings together the homes, buildings, and drawings from that work. A record of the places we helped shape, and the details that made each one a home.

Years of work

1. 2003Scott Tomsu founds Advantage Design Homes, Inc. in Lafayette.
2. 2004First homes finished: 3 new homes in Deer Meadow Village Ph 2, Broussard. Work starts in Fairground Place Ph 2, Carencro, including a Parade of Homes entry.
3. 200511 homes finished in Fairground Place Ph 2 (Carencro), Sugar Trace South and Sugar Trace Ph 2 (Broussard), Anslem Ridge (Youngsville), and Pinhook South (Lafayette).
4. 200611 homes finished in Fairground Place Ph 3 (Carencro), Sugar Trace South and Southampton Estates (Broussard), and Delmar Estates South (Lafayette Parish), including a Parade of Homes house. First commercial interior renovation in Lafayette.
5. 2007Peak year: 19 homes finished in Fairground Place Ph 3 and Pelican Ridge (Carencro), Southampton Estates (Broussard), Highland Ridge (Youngsville), and Ville-Marie (Lafayette Parish).
6. 200813 homes finished in Sugarland Estates (Youngsville), Envie and Fairground Place Ph 3 (Carencro), Aubrey Estates (Scott), Miramar (Lafayette Parish), and Judice Farms Estates. First New Orleans raised duplex finished after Hurricane Katrina.
7. 20096 homes finished, plus two raised duplexes in New Orleans. Commercial and public work begins: a restaurant buildout in Broussard, a medical office in New Iberia, public-housing renovations and a park restroom building in Ville Platte. The company is renamed Advantage Design Construction, Inc.
8. 20103 custom homes finished in Lafayette Parish and Maurice. The medical office and the Ville Platte restroom building are completed. A fourth New Orleans duplex goes up.
9. 2011A home finished in Miramar. Four homes finished in Lakeview Estates.
10. 20122 homes finished in Miramar Ph II, the last new homes in the record.
